The exercise of the Ten Minute Artist is a way to by-pass defended thought processes which may, due to time or experience become blocked, holding back creative energy. During this meditative experience quiet down the body/mind giving creative parts space to come forth. Dare to give time and space for them to speak. Trust these parts to use the body as their vehicle of expression.

Creative parts are as different and unique as finger prints. Each has its own language. If it speaks in pictures, let it draw, paint and show you. If it speaks in words, let it use your mouth for story telling, your hand for the writing of poetry, journal or dream keeping. Perhaps it wants to use the whole body to dance make music, drum and sing. Be open to whatever voice it chooses.

Welcome in the creative self for at least ten minutes a day. If at first it does not show up be patient, continue to provide time and hospitable space. Once creativity arrives it will lead you to trailheads for healing, forgotten inner landscapes and truths that are written in your heart.

A full spectrum of water colors was presented to each participant. They did not see one another’s work prior to painting.
