Sexuality and Sensuality: a collage

I created this collage in a workshop I give called Life Images. In the workshop, shamanic journeying is used to uncover a word or phrase that could lead to a hidden desire or help resolve a current life issue. After journeying, participants are given 20 minutes to tear images from magazines, using their unconscious to lead them to the pictures that are connected to the uncovered word or phrase. They are then given 30 minutes to arrange the pictures on paper. At the end of that time, they journey with their work of art and ask it to “speak” to them.

As often happens with these collages, the images that sprang forth in “Sexuality and Sensuality” were initially surprising. For me each chosen image represents a different aspect of sexuality and sensuality. Together they reveal the inner workings and longings of my heart and mind. The collage is an artistic rendering of my life. The past, the present, and the future are represented through the work. I feel that the collage (my unconscious) was asking me to delve deeply into my own sense of masculine and feminine, beauty and strength, partnership and sacred self, and to know that there is a beautiful balance of those things within me.

There is always more to learn from each image, as well as from the finished product. I often return to the collage to see if something new will be revealed, or if something that presented itself in the past has been resolved.
