Having Tea with Pete

By Tony Schanuel

I was having tea with Peter Max,
it suddenly occurred to me that I was dreaming
and Peter really had not ordered tea
but for some reason I tried to pay the bill
with this piece of art
I had just finished creating.

Looking rather quizzical Peter said "This should cover the tip!"

Then I remembered this isn't a dream I am typing this in REAL TIME......................................................!

Real
Time

IS Time Real ?
(I am not banking on this one even if the economy picks up.)

Looking back I remember when Max created
these wonderful colorful pieces of art with stars and rainbows
and bell bottomed cartoon characters zooming across an Azure Sky.
The colors were as fresh as ripe tomatoes ready to fall off the vine.
You know the ones our children will never ever taste out of fear
of becoming their parents.
I wondered where in the hell did he come up with these images,
like what shelf did he pull these down from.
I had never seen anything like this growing up
in East Saint Louis................................ WOW !
Hey go figure or at least "Go ask Alice".

So Peter thanks for the inspiration and being a role model
for unabashed color, boldness and stylin bell bottoms.
Your art has given me a portal to taste my sky.
Salute !
